LAURENS, Iowa -- Roy W. Schultz, 83, of Laurens died Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002, at his residence.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Bethany Lutheran Church in Laurens, with the Rev. Tammy Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Laurens Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today at Smith-Loterbour-Powers Funeral Home in Laurens.

Roy Walter Schultz was born June 25, 1919, in Merrill, Iowa, the son of George and Bessie (Robbins) Schultz. He was educated in a Stanton Township country school. In 1937, he moved to the Albert City area to farm.

On April 28, 1940, he married Lillian Aronson in Albert City. The couple farmed in the Laurens area their entire married life. He semi-retired in the late 1980s, but continued to help his son, Walt, in the farming.

He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, having been very active in the church. He had served on the Albert City Elevator board and was the Marshall Township assessor. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking, gardening and quilting with Lillian.

Survivors include his wife, Lilian of Laurens; two daughters, Lorene (Bill) Lone of Naples, Fla., and Junell (Dave) Roberts of Las Animas, Colo.; a son, Walt (Janice) Schultz of Laurens; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lester (Ina) Schultz of Laurens, and James (Ardy) Schultz of Bella Vista, Ark.; and two sisters, Goldie Denniston of Le Mars, Iowa, and Juanita (Everett) Posey of Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Jerry Lone.
