AKRON, Iowa -- Evelyn Foley, 80, of rural Akron died Friday, July 11, 2008, at her residence.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church at Ellendale, rural Merrill, Iowa. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a parish rosary at 4:30 p.m. and a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m, at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Carlsen Funeral Home -- Schroeder Chapel in Akron.

Evelyn Foley, 80, of rural Akron, Iowa, passed away Friday, July 11, 2008 at her home near Akron.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 17, 2008 at St. Joseph Catholic Church at Ellendale, rural Merrill, Iowa. Father Dan Greving will celebrate. Interment will follow in the Parish cemetery. Visitations will be on Wednesday, July 16, 2008 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a Parish rosary at 4:30 p.m., and a Scriptural Wake Service at 7:00 p.m., all at the church. The Carlsen Funeral Home – Schroeder Chapel in Akron is in charge of arrangements.

Evelyn Jean Foley was born February 20, 1928 in St. Peter, Minnesota, the daughter of Walter and Margaret (Simonett) Rohlfing. She attended country school near Cleveland, Minnesota. Later, she attended school in Cleveland and graduated from Cleveland High School. Following her graduation, she worked for a clothing factory in St. Peter for a few years.

She was united in marriage to Gordon Foley on September 15, 1956 in Cleveland, Minnesota. After their marriage, Gordon and Evelyn moved to a farm near Akron, Iowa. Evelyn worked for a short time at Aalfs Manufacturing in Le Mars before staying home to raise her children and help Gordon on the farm.

Evelyn was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church at Ellendale. She was active in Altar society and church circle. She had been a member of Catholic Daughter’s of America for several years. Evelyn loved gardening and canning foods. She was a longtime member of Country Gardner’s Club. She also enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her husband of over 51 years, Gordon of Akron; 5 children: Barbara Monson and her husband Mark of Ramona, CA and their children, Melissa Helm, Christopher, and Nicole, Steve Foley and his wife Thao of Akron, and their children, Mandy and Truc-Ly, David Foley and his wife Barbara of Akron, and their children, Kristen, Ryan, and Jacob, Kevin Foley of Akron, and Shaun Foley and his wife Pamela of Sheridan, WY and their daughter, Elizabeth; 2 sisters: Donna Jellum of Waseca, MN and Delores Wieland and her husband Richard of Lee Center, MN; a brother: William Rohlfing and his wife Julie of Cleveland, MN; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Margaret Rohlfing; 2 sisters: Mary Lou Rohlfing and Ann Rezac and a brother: Marvin Rohlfing.
