MERRILL, Iowa - Gerald F. Rohmiller, 71, of rural Merrill died Sunday, Aug. 24, 1997, at his residence.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ellendale, Iowa, with the Rev. Richard D. Ball officiating. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today, with a rosary at 7:30 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 8 p.m., at the Larkin Northside Funeral Home.

Mr. Rohmiller was born Oct. 9, 1925, in Mapleton, Iowa, the son of Fred and Helen (Brummer) Rohmiller. He was raised in Mapleton and lived in Lawton, Iowa a brief time. He served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1946.

He married Virginia A. Morley on Sept. 27, 1948, in Sioux City. He lived in Sioux City from 1948 to 1965, when he moved to rural Merrill. He was employed as a manager of Jerry Services Station in Sioux City from 1950 to 1954, he then became a self-employed trucker making local hauls from 1954 to 1965. He had farmed since 1965.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Farm Bureau. He enjoyed raising Arabian horses.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, Gary and his wife Pearl and Kevin, all of Sioux City, Greg and his wife Maureen of Merrill, and Shaun and his wife Becky of Dayton, Ohio; three daughters and their husbands, Luanne and Mike Buffum, Michelle and Greg Collins and Lisa and Steve Arens, all of Sioux City; three brothers, Joseph of Le Mars, Iowa, Lloyd of Sioux City and John Ronald of Bakersfield, Calif.; five sisters, Gertrude Swanger, Marcile Munson, Darlene Nolen, and Noreen Schmidt, all of Sioux City, and Elaine Rickert of Denison, Iowa; 23 grandchildren, Gerald, Nicholas, Marlin, Kevin, Crystal, Patricia, Carter, Sara, Amy, Bobby, Emily, Chelsee, Joshua, and Cole Rohmiller, Alicia Krohn, Chad, Mark, and William Buffum, Ian and Brittany Collins, Tempesst, Sophia and Chase Arens; and a great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two grandchildren, Bridgett and Gary Martin Rohmiller Jr.; a brother, Bernard; and a sister, Patricia Bohlman.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
