LE MARS, Iowa - Francis J. Miller, 80, of Le Mars died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer, Iowa, following a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ellendale, Iowa, with the Rev. Robert J. Waters officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Le Mars, with military rites conducted by American Legion Wasmer Post 241. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Tuesday, with a Scripture wake service at 7 p.m., at Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars.

Mr. Miller was born June 1, 1919, in rural Le Mars, the son of John and Margaret (Russel) Miller. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He married Rosemary Pick on Nov. 19, 1946, in Lincoln Township. The couple farmed near Le Mars for many years, retiring in 1994. She died March 16, 1994.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and American Legion Wasmer Post 241.

Survivors include five daughters and their husbands, Linda and Bob Bartling of Burke, S.D., Jean and John Patton of Lytle, Texas, Lois and Gene Hofer of Neenah, Wis., Kaye and Dave Anderson of Burbank, S.D., and Patty and Grant Washnok of Brandon, S.D.; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Agnes Utecht of Le Mars and Margaret Utecht of Worthington, Minn.

He was preceded in death by two sons-in-law, Danny Edge and Kevin Wayrynen; and two brothers-in-law, Walter and Lowell Utecht.

Memorials in his name may be directed to Big Sioux Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association.
