Thursday, December 09, 2004AKRON, Iowa -- Irene A. Osterbuhr, 90, of Akron passed away Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004, at Akron Care Center.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Akron, with Monsignor Richard Zenk officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present after 6 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at Carlsen Funeral Home-Schroeder Chapel in Akron.
Irene A. Osterbuhr was born Dec. 27, 1913, in Johnson Township, rural Plymouth County, Iowa, the daughter of Peter and Anna (Eulberg) Braun. She attended country school in Plymouth County, between Merrill, Iowa and Akron. She was baptized and confirmed into the Catholic faith at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ellendale, Iowa. She and her family moved to Akron in 1934.
She was united in marriage to Otto Osterbuhr on Dec. 2, 1936, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church rectory in Akron. She was a homemaker and a caregiver for her parents. For the past seven years, she had lived at the Akron Care Center Assisted Living and most recently at the care center.
She was a 70-year member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, where she was a member of the circle. She also was a member of Akron Care Center Bell Ringers. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, canning foods and baking, but most of all spending she enjoyed time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include two children and their spouses, Marlin and Sandra Osterbuhr of Akron and Mary and Bill Hamilton of Merrill, Iowa; eight grandchildren and spouses, Brenda Osterbuhr, Lisa and Terry Kool, Brian Osterbuhr, Shannon and John Szostek, Tanya and Mark DiLisio, Brooke and Joshua DeYoung, Jim and Cindy Welch and John Welch and his special friend, Shelly; 10 great-grandchildren, Alisha Saunders, Kelsey Kool, Sydney Szostek, Nyah Szostek, Giovanni DiLisio, MaKenna DeYoung, Andy Welch, Alex Welch, Adam Welch and Owen Welch; a son-in-law, Eugene Welch of Crofton, Neb.; a sister-in-law, Myrtle Braun of Le Mars, Iowa; a brother-in-law, Elmer Osterbuhr of Hawarden, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Otto in April 1977; a daughter, Marlene Welch in 1968; a grandson, Joe Welch in 1990; four brothers, Frank, Clarence, John and Walter; and two sisters, Leona and Francis.
