Dale L. KovarnaDale L. Kovarna, 55, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 1999, at his residence.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Robert J. Waters of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ellendale, Iowa officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Ellendale. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.
Mr. Kovarna was born Dec. 5, 1943, in Sioux City, the son of Lester J. and Dwilda (Montagne) Kovarna. He was raised in Hinton, Iowa, and attended Hinton schools. He graduated from Hinton High School in 1962. He served on active duty with the U.S. Navy from 1962 to 1964, then with the U.S. Navy Reserves for four years.
He married Diana Roddewig on April 20, 1963, in Ellendale. He began his employment with Sioux Tools in 1965 and was currently employed there.
He was of the Catholic faith and attended St. Michael Catholic Church. He was a member of American Legion Casper Post 477 of Hinton.
Survivors include a son, Kelly and his friend, Hope Berry of Sumter, S.C.; a brother and his wife, Gary and Dianne of Hinton; two sisters, Caren Kounkel of Austin, Texas, and Renee Thoreson and her husband, Craig of Hinton; and three grandchildren, Zachary and Jonathon Kovarna and Pierce Berry.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Pallbearers will be Jim Groenewold, Calvin Hartman, Larry Kovarna, Dave McKenney, Doug Kovarna and Jim Miller.
