GERALD HEMPHILL
LE MARS, Iowa—Gerald Hemphill, 63, LeMars, head of Plymouth and Cherokee County social services, died Sunday at his home after an apparent heart attack.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Mauer Funeral Home. The Rev. James Ransom will officiate. Burial will be in the LeMars Memorial Cemetery.
Mr. Hemphill was born Feb. 18, 1914, in Merrill and was a life-long resident of Plymouth County. He was a graduate of Westmar College. He married Ruth Fox Aug. 27, 1938, in Des Moines.
Mr. Hemphill worked for the Iowa Department of Social Welfare since 1935. He served with the Army during World War II and was a member of Wasmer American Legion Post in LeMars.
He was past exalted ruler of the Elks Lodge in LeMars, Iowa, Elks district deputy and state vice president of the Northwest District of Iowa Elks.
Survivors include his widow; a sister, Mrs. Lois I. Levins of Daytona Beach, Fla., and a brother, Wallace, of LeMars.
