"Toots" Eileen Langel, 90, of Le Mars, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.

The former Eileen Elizabeth Anthony was born April 18, 1918, in Mapleton, the daughter of Eugene and Mary (Gotto) Anthony. She grew up in Mapleton until her family moved to Le Mars in 1930. Eileen Anthony married Victor Langel June 16, 1947, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars. The couple made their home near Le Mars and farmed east of town for many years. Her husband Vic died Dec. 11, 2003. Toots continued to live on the Langel Century Farm until the time of her death.

Toots was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, the church guild, Christian Mothers Society and the Catholic Ladies Club. She was a devout woman and was faithful to her rosary. She was also a past member of the Eagle's Auxiliary.

Toots enjoyed playing cards at the church, Tuesday night Bingo at the Eagles Club and going to WinnaVegas once a month. She also enjoyed sewing and baking, especially chocolate chip cookies, sugar cookies and peanut brittle.

Survivors include her five children and their spouses: Gary and Cindy Langel of Le Mars, Lynn and Dave Ahlers of Remsen, Tom and Kathy Langel and Sue and Merle Huls, all of Le Mars, and Bruce and Kim Langel of Glenwood; 17 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; five step-great grandchildren; two sisters: Helen Langel of Norfolk, Neb., and Bernice Koopman and her husband Mark of Le Mars; four sisters-in-law: Syb Anthony, Vonnie Anthony, JoAnn Anthony and Millie Junkers; other brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law on Vic's side: Ray and Dorothy Langel of Le Mars, Hank Boden of Le Mars and Isabel and Dick Laddasaw of Remsen; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Mary (Gotto) Anthony; her parents-in-law, Frank and Christine (Rolfes) Langel; her husband Vic Langel; a grandson Todd Huls; four brothers: Elmer, Leonard "Baldy," Albert "Babe," and Vernon Anthony; brothers-in-law: Lawrence and Helen Ney, Bill Langel, Ed Langel, Lawrence and Charolette Langel, Joe Junkers, Ermin Wiederholt and Cliff Langel; sisters-in-law: Mary Ellen Boden and Adella and Mark Bivins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars with the Rev. Kevin Richter as celebrant. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will be at St. Joseph's Catholic Church anytime after 3 p.m. Thursday, where there will be a Christian Mothers rosary at 4 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume on Friday morning at the church for one hour prior to the Funeral Mass.

The Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars is in charge of arrangements.

Twelve grandsons will be her pallbearers: Nickolas and Christopher Langel, Michael and Jeremy Ahlers, Josh, Luke and Cody Langel, Tommy and Tyler Huls, and Drew, Tevis and Walker Langel. Honorary pallbearers will be her five granddaughters: Carmen Sieburg, Stephanie Langel, Erin Pick, Nicole Ahlers and Kelsey Langel.
