LE MARS, Iowa -- Stephen R. Roberts, 56, of Le Mars died unexpectedly Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002 at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. James Tigges officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery, Le Mars. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Thursday, with the family present 6 to 8:30 p.m., a parish rosary at 4 p.m., a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m., and a Knights of Columbus rosary at 8 p.m., all at Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars.

Steve was born Aug. 3, 1946 in Le Mars, the son of Jack and Helen (Burkhardt) Roberts. He grew up in Le Mars and graduated from Le Mars Community High School in 1964. He attended Westmar College and graduated in 1968. He taught political science, history and coached football for three years at Afton, Iowa. He returned to Le Mars and had been employed for 31 years with Chesterman Company as a route driver and salesman.

He married Linda Guntren on Dec. 26, 1970 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen, Iowa.

Steve was an active member and user at St. James Catholic Church. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Trinity Council 1466, Eagles Club (Airee 1381) and was a member of the Le Mars Fire Department for more than 30 years. He enjoyed fishing, racing and spending time with family and friends at Okoboji.

Survivors include two children, Mike Roberts and his wife, Heidi, of Le Mars and Amy Roberts and her fiance, Darius Adamski, of Chicago, Ill.; his parents, Jack and Helen Roberts of Le Mars; two sisters, Kathy Solomon and her husband, Mike, of Sioux City and Jolene Lind of Le Mars; three grandchildren, Kaitlin, Rex and Xavier Roberts of Le Mars; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Mavis Kunkel of Remsen.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
