OBITUARY
Sioux City Journal, Sept. 23, 1982John F. Clarey, Sr.,
Merrill, Iowa—John F. Clarey Sr., 82, longtime Merrill farmer, died unexpectedly Wednesday [September 22, 1982] in a hospital at Le Mars.
Services will be at 10 A.M. Saturday in St. Joseph Catholic Church at Ellendale. The Rev. Dennis Sefcik will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. The rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Friday in Meyer Bros. Colonial Chapel in Sioux City.
Mr. Clarey was born Nov. 17, 1899, at Akron [son of Thomas and Mary Boden Clarey] and was a lifelong Plymouth County resident.
He married Esther I. McCorkell Oct. 24, 1923 at Akron. She died Feb. 1, 1969 at Merrill. He was a lifelong area farmer, retiring in 1965.
Mr. Clarey was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Survivors include four sons, John F. Jr. and Paul A., both of Merrill, Richard of Cotati, Calif., and Ray of Beardstown, Ill; five daughters, Mrs. Dwight (Patricia) Graham and Mrs. Phil (Donna) Vondrak, both of Sioux City, Mrs. Leo (Ann) DeRocher of Merrill, Mrs. Emmett (Lucy) Sitzmann and Mrs. Dennis (Lucille) Beck of Columbus, Neb; a brother, Clifford of Akron; 58 grandchildren and 45 great grandchildren.
