Florence C. Turkington, 96, of Kingsley, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009, at the Kingsley Nursing & Rehab Center in Kingsley.
The former Florence C. Fokken was born July 3, 1912, at rural Kingsley, the daughter of Carl and Florence (Behrens) Fokken. She grew up in the Kingsley area, graduating from Kingsley High School. She married William (Bill) J. Turkington May 12, 1936 in Sioux City. After their marriage Florence and William lived in the Kingsley area.
Florence assisted Bill in operating the Kingsley Clothing Store and Turk's Café for several years. She later worked at the Kingsley Nursing Home for 17 years before retiring.
Florence enjoyed spending time at Lake Okoboji with her family and friends.
She was a 50-year member of Eastern Star and the Congregational United Church of Christ in Kingsley.
She is survived by two daughters, Coleen and John Larsen of Kingsley, and Maureen Wilson and significant other, Steve Wright of Kingsley; seven grandchildren, Michael and Mary Larsen, Lisa and Bill Langel, Craig and Jackie Larsen, Brian and Jen Wilson, Dawn Wilson, Bill and Anita Wilson, Mark and Rebecca Wilson; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; and three sisters, Della Delperdang, Velma Boutwell and Norma Paulin.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Turkington; two brothers, William and Carl Fokken and one sister, Pearl Fokken.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Kingsley, with the Rev. Robert Blair officiating. Burial will be at Kingsley Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today (Friday), at the Rohde Funeral Home in Kingsley, with the family present from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Rohde Funeral Home in Kingsley.
