Marie M. Woodyard, 92, of Le Mars, entered her heavenly home on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009, at the Good Samaritan Society of Le Mars.
Marie Mabel Morris was born Dec. 8, 1916, in Emmetsburg, the daughter of Elmer and Janette (Walker) Morris. The family later moved to Estherville where she finished her education.
Marie met and married Clarence "Woody" Woodyard Feb. 20, 1935, in Spirit Lake.
The couple was blessed with four daughters. They raised their family in Estherville and then moved to Le Mars upon Woody's retirement in March 1985. Woody died May 29, 1989. Marie moved to Sunset Villa and later to Prime Living Apartments when she needed more care. On July 31, 2007 Marie moved to the Good Samaritan Village.
She was a member of the Le Mars Church of Christ. Marie was an avid reader and loved to crochet when she was able. She also enjoyed watching Animal Planet on television. Marie appreciated the music provided at the Good Samaritan Village and a weekly game of bingo.
Marie will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Dorothy and Richard Porter of Le Mars, Ellen and Reuben Evenson of Newburgh, Ind., Donna Lyman of Le Mars, Joanne and Douglas Higgins, Clarinda; 10 grandchildren: Kim Porter of Le Mars, Michael and Sheri Porter of Le Mars, Jeannette and Michael Kinney of Le Mars, Pastor Douglas and Lisa Evenson of Beardstown, Ill., Connie and Tom Lance of Evansville, Ind., Michelle and Tom Miles of Cincinnati, Ohio, David and Kathy Evenson of Evansville, Ind., Angie and Brent De Gase of Clarinda, Lisa and Tom Pace of Clarinda, Chris and Trish Higgins of Clarinda; 22 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Clarence; and two young brothers, Earl and Bobbie; and a son-in-law Roy Lyman.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home of Le Mars. The Rev. Reuben Evenson will officiate. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Estherville. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home. The family will be present to greet friends from 6 to 7 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume at 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
