Lorna Heimgartner, 80, of Le Mars, died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2004, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.

Lorna Lucille Eppling was born Oct. 21, 1923, on the family farm near Kingsley, the daughter of Leonard and Martha (Hopp) Eppling. Lorna was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Hinton. She attended country school near Kingsley and graduated from Moville High School. Lorna was united in marriage to Duane Heimgartner on July 21, 1946, at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Hinton. The couple farmed east of Hinton in Lincoln Township for many years. Lorna and Duane moved to Le Mars on Dec. 26, 2003.

Lorna had been a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church and participated with the Trinity Ladies Aid for many years. After moving to Le Mars, Lorna and Duane joined Grace Lutheran Church.

She enjoyed quilting and tending to her garden and raising flowers. She also was a very gifted cook and baker. Throughout her life, Lorna had focused on her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Duane of Le Mars; three children, Marlene Rishel and her husband, Steve, of Plattsmouth, Neb., Ron Heimgartner and his wife, Sandy, of Sioux City, and Mark Heimgartner and his wife, Janell, of Le Mars; eight grandchildren, Nathan and his wife Becky Heimgartner of O'Fallon, Mo., Dustin Heimgartner of Fairfield, Calif., Katie Heimgartner of Sioux City, Kristen Heimgartner and Jacob Heimgartner of Le Mars, Philip Rishel, Brian Rishel, and Aaron Rishel of Plattsmouth, Neb.; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.

SHe was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Martha Eppling; a sister, Marlys Susemihl; and two brothers, Merlin and Marvin Eppling.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars with the Rev. Larry Fett officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, rural Hinton. Visitations will be after 3 p.m. today (Friday) at Grace Lutheran Church with the family present to greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 6 p.m., all at the church.

Funeral arrangements are with the Carlsen Funeral Home of Le Mars.

Pallbearers will be Philip Rishel, Brian Rishel, Aaron Rishel, Nathan Heimgartner, Dustin Heimgartner, and Paul Susemihl.
