Vera Lucille Elliott, 95, of Fremont, Neb., and formerly of Craig and Le Mars, died Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008, at Arbor Manor in Fremont, Neb.
Vera Lucille Elliott was born March 7, 1913, on a farm in Grant Township, Plymouth County, the third of five children to Jesse B. and Maude (Phillips) Peebles. She attended country school near her home and helped her parents with farming.
On Aug. 13, 1931, Lucille and Donald W. Elliott were united in marriage at Elk Point, S.D. Lucille and Donald made their home in Craig. Along with raising her son Dennis, Lucille assisted her husband at the Security Savings Bank in Craig. They retired in 1974 and moved to Le Mars. Lucille and Donald celebrated 63 years of marriage before Donald died Feb. 1, 1995.
She was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Craig. She participated in Ladies' Aid and Circle.
Lucille will be lovingly remembered by her son Dennis and his wife Karen of Fremont, Neb.; five grandchildren Todd Elliott of Tokyo, Japan, Greg Elliott of Malvern, Pa., Beth Ferrari of Fremont, Neb., Tom Elliott of Fremont, Neb., Amy Fritsen of Morse Bluff, Neb.; 14 great-grandchildren; and a brother Ralph Peebles of Chandler, Ariz.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Donald; two sisters Maxine and Phyllis; and a brother Glen.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the St. John Evangelical Lutheran church in Craig. The Rev. Barb Hansen will officiate. Burial will follow at the St. John Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in Craig. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m today (Tuesday) at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home of Le Mars. The family will be present form 5 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral service on Wednesday.
