LE MARS, Iowa—Esther M. Pew, 100, of Dallas, Texas, a former resident of LeMars, died Monday, March 18, 1996, at Treemont Care Center in Dallas.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church in LeMars with the Rev. Lynn Potter officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home, LeMars.

Mrs. Pew was born May 10, 1895, on a farm in Perry Township, the daughter of Andrew and Magadalena (Roesch) Crouch. Her father was the last surviving Civil War veteran in Plymouth County until his death in 1945. She moved with her family to LeMars at age 5. She graduated from LeMars High School and attended Western Union (Westmar) College. She taught country school until her marriage to Harold Pew in 1916. The Pew family was in the car and implement business in LeMars for decades and was active in community and church affairs. Mr. Pew died in 1971. She was an avid golfer and had enjoyed walking several miles almost daily.

Survivors include two daughters, Geraldine Hodapp of Elmhurst, Ill., and Patricia Cutler and her husband, Chuck of Richardson, Texas; a son Bill Pew and his wife, Elaine of San Marcos, Calif.; 11 grandchildren, James Hodapp, Kathy Pew, Jeanne Pew O’Brien, Rebecca Pew Myerly, Margaret Pew, Candy Cutler Biggs, Paula Pew Konrady, Tom Pew, Jeri Cutler, Rob Pew and Liz Pew Rhoads; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great great-grandchild.

She was also preceded in death by four sisters, Claudia Hauff, Mabel Van Dyke, Cora Douglass, and Frankie Lemon; a brother, Oscar Crouch; a son and daughter-in-law, Dick Pew and Margie Bolser Pew.
