Virgil R. Peterson
HAWARDEN, Iowa - Virgil R. Peterson, 88, of Hawarden died Friday, Aug. 17, 2001, at Hawarden Community Hospital.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Hawarden, with the Rev. Stuart Schreur and Dr. Edward E. Peterson officiating. Burial will be in Grace Hill Cemetery in Hawarden. Visitation will begin at noon today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., followed by visitation with the family until 8:30 p.m., at Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden.
Mr. Peterson was born Sept. 11, 1912, in Union County, S.D., the son of Edward and Mary (Jacobson) Peterson. He married Cornelia Otten on Dec. 28, 1941, in Hawarden. They farmed in the Hawarden and Alcester, S.D., areas until 1976, when they retired and moved to Hawarden.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Hawarden.
Survivors include his wife; three sons and their wives, Dr. Edward R. and Mary of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, Lloyd and Karen of Minneapolis, Minn., and Dirk and Cindy of Alcester, S.D.; a daughter and her husband, Rosalind and Bruce McInnis of Hawarden; a brother, Myron Peterson of Hawarden; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Matthew R. Peterson.
