Jervonne Lou "Jerry" Holmes, 73, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2005, in Sioux City following a brief illness with ALS.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. James United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Bernie Colorado officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3:30 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.

Jerry was born Dec. 9, 1931, in Kingsley, Iowa, the daughter of Michael Jesse and Mabel Frances (Kroeger) Mathers. She moved to Sioux City as a young child, where she attended school and had resided ever since.

She married James Holmes on Jan. 15, 1949, in Sloan, Iowa. She was employed with Zenith Corp., Bellas Hess and at Countryside Nursing Home in Sioux City.

She was a member of St. James United Methodist Church and the church circle. She was a member of the Moose Lodge and enjoyed gardening, flowers, cooking and family gatherings.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Rick and Bev Holmes of Sloan, Iowa, and Harley and Deb Holmes of Yankton, S.D.; two daughters and their husbands, Wendy (Holmes) and Dick Chase of Sioux City and Jamie (Holmes) and Wade Guffy of Sioux City; 10 grandchildren and spouses, Jeremy and Jennifer, Kelly and Steve, Michele and Tony, Mike and Angela, Matt and Jill, Josh and Trish, Justin and Kari, Tyler, Hannah and Mallory; 11 great-grandchildren, C.J., Caitlin, Carter, Derek, Alexis, Caleb, Madison, Piper, Ciara, Kayana, Jaycee; a sister and her husband, Shirley and Bob Hummel of Sloan, Iowa; and two brothers and their wives, Dan and Loretta Mathers of Urbandale, Iowa, and Terry and Judy Mathers of Denton, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Holmes; her parents; and two grandchildren, Tracy and Amanda.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
