REMSEN, Iowa -- Peter J. Homan Sr., 77, of Remsen died Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen, with the Rev. Timothy Johnson officiating. Private committal services will be at a later date in St. Mary's Cemetery, Remsen. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a parish rosary at 3 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen.

Peter J. Homan Sr. was born April 12, 1927, in Craig, Iowa, the son of Peter and Rose (Wenner) Homan Sr. As a young child, he moved with his family to near Remsen, where he received his education at St. Mary's Catholic School, graduating in 1945. He entered the U.S. Navy on June 4, 1945 and served until being honorably discharged on Aug. 13, 1946. He then returned to Remsen, where he operated a gas station.

On Aug. 16, 1950, he married Vivian Goebel at Granville, Iowa. They made their home in Remsen, where he was employed at the Home Lumber Co. in Northwest Iowa. In the early 1970s, he established his own wholesale lumber company called Dogwood Sales, which he operated until his retirement in the early 1990s. Vivian died May 24, 1994. Mr. Homan had been a resident of Happy Siesta Health Care Center since March of 1999.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen.

Survivors include five daughters and their husbands, Marilyn and Chris Christoffel of Sioux City, Marlene and Mike Leiser of Fraser, Colo., Maxine and Ron Newmark of Thornton, Colo., Martha and Brian Havermann of West Des Moines, Iowa and Margie and Mark Ruedy of Bettendorf, Iowa; three sons, Tom and his wife, Cathy, of Mason City, Iowa, James of Valley Springs, S.D. and Peter Jr. of Denver, Colo.; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his special friend, Marge Holton, of Cherokee, Iowa; a sister, Elaine Homan, of Remsen; a brother and his wife, Paul and Ethel, of Remsen; and two sisters-in-law, Armella Homan of Remsen and Kathleen Homan of Tarzana, Calif.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Amber Christoffel; four brothers, Gordon, Gerald, Donald, in infancy and Robert; and a sister, Marian Frampton.

Pallbearers will be Adam, Alisa, Eric and Evan Christoffel, Daniel Homan and Zachary Morin.
