Frank A. Helm Jr., 83, of Sioux City, formerly of Dakota City, died Thursday, March 11, 2004, at Harvest Nursing and Rehab Center in Sioux City.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Michael Catholic Church in South Sioux City, with the Rev. Daniel Wittrock officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m., at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home.
Mr. Helm was born July 10, 1920, in rural Hinton, Iowa, the son of Frank A. and Winifred (Fry) Helm Sr. He graduated from Liberty Consolidated School in Hinton.
He married Dorothy M. Sweeney on Feb. 20, 1950, in Sioux City. The couple farmed in Hinton for a number of years before moving to South Sioux City and went into horse racing. They later moved to Dakota City. He was employed at IBP as a construction foreman from 1965 to 1983, when he retired.
He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church.
Survivors include a sister, Lorraine Blenderman of Phoenix, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy on Aug. 12, 1998, in Dakota City; and a sister, Maxine Sinnard.
Pallbearers will be Randal and Eric Sinnard, Richard and Randy Hartman, Bob Hutchinson and Rick Hill.
