WAKONDA, S.D. -- Ruth A. Held, 80, of Wakonda, formerly of Yankton, S.D., and Hinton, Iowa, died Friday, Nov. 19, 2004, at the Avera Wakonda Heritage Manor in Wakonda.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30, at United Methodist Church in Hinton with the Rev. Ben Meeks officiating. Inurnment will be at Melbourne Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Kostel Funeral Home of Yankton.
Ruth was born Dec. 8, 1923, in Hinton, the daughter of Walter W. Held and his wife, the former Mary Royse of Rockville, Ind. She graduated from Hinton High School and attended Morningside College.
She worked for a time at Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and later did secretarial work for the ASC office in Cedar Rapids. She worked at the Masonic Library in Cedar Rapids in later years. Because of declining health, she moved to Yankton to be near her brother, Gordon Held, M.D. For the past few years she lived at Avera Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Wakonda.
She sang for many years with the Yankton Sweet Adelines ladies barbershop chorus. She enjoyed painting.
Survivors include a sister, Esther Legg of Anamosa, Iowa; a brother, Gordon Held of Young Harris, Ga.; and 16 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Mary Lou Feikema of Hinton and Carolyn Davis of Princeton, Ore.; and a brother, Charles Held of Sioux City.
