HINTON, Iowa -- Blanche M. Helm, 79, of Hinton died Friday, Feb. 21, 2003, at her residence.

Services will be 7 p.m. today at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel in Sioux City. Visitation with the family present will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Helm was born Dec. 11, 1923 in Granville, Iowa, the daughter of Robert G. and Margaret (McCauley) Williamson. The family moved from Granville to Merrill, Iowa, when Blanche was a young child. She graduated from Merrill High School in 1941 and later attended Iowa Teachers College and then Morningside College.

She married John M. Helm on Aug. 24, 1946 in Sioux City. Blanche enjoyed gardening, decorating, traveling and was an avid sports fan, especially watching basketball.

Survivors include her husband, John of Hinton; a son, Jeff Helm, also of Hinton; a daughter, Jill Helm and her husband, David Sparks, and Amy and Jonathan Sparks, all of Sioux City; a brother, Robert Williamson and his wife, Virginia, of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and three nieces, Martha Rugeley and her husband, Kent, and Mollie Biggers and her husband, Doug, all of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Sarah Isabel and her husband, Alfonso, of Madrid, Spain.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorials in Blanche's name may be made to Hospice of Siouxland.
