Bernice M. Heeren, 84, of Kingsley, died Sunday, Aug. 10, 2008, at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen.

Bernice was born March 26, 1924 at Lawton, the daughter of Henry and Louise (Krause) Hoffman. She grew up in the Lawton area, and on April 6, 1947 she married Wallace "Wally" Heeren. After their marriage they farmed west of Kingsley a few years before moving into Kingsley. Bernice worked at Colonial Manor, now the Kingsley Nursing & Rehab Center, for 19 years as a LPN.

Bernice was a member of the First Lutheran Church where she was very active serving as the church organist for many years and sang in the church choir.

Survivors include her husband, Wallace "Wally" Heeren, a daughter, Michelle Leonard and her husband, Clint, of Remsen, and a son, Monte Heeren and his wife, Terri of Des Moines; a grandson, Cody Leonard and a granddaughter, Mandy Heeren.

Bernice was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents Henry and Louise Hoffman, and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Harlan and Rose Heeren.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church in Kingsley. Burial will be at Kingsley Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday at the First Lutheran Church until service time with the family present during this time. The Rohde Funeral Home in Kingsley is handling all arrangements.
