SHELDON, Iowa -- Charlotte "Lottie" Martens, 92, of Sergeant Bluff, formerly of Sheldon, passed away Thursday, Sept. 13, 2001, at a Sioux City hospital.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in East Lawn Cemetery, Sheldon, with Dr. Emmanuel Dass of United Methodist Church in Sheldon officiating. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon.
Charlotte Ann "Lottie" Martens, the daughter of Anthony and Josephine (Kredic) Daugherty, was born Dec. 26, 1908, in Seney, Iowa. She received her education in a rural school in Plymouth County, Iowa.
On Aug. 10, 1927, she was united in marriage to John "Jack" Martens in Sibley, Iowa. Charlotte had worked at the ladies ready-to-wear department of J.C. Penney, Ellerbrooek and Wolff's Department Stores all in Sheldon. She also operated Charlotte's Antiques in Sheldon for 25 years. Her husband preceded her in death on July 31, 1988, in George, Iowa.
She was a member of the George Presbyterian Church and of the Women's Club in George. Charlotte was a resident of the Embassy Rehabilitation and Care Center in Sergeant Bluff. Charlotte passed away on Thursday, Sept. 13, 2001, at a Sioux City hospital, reaching the age of 92 years, 8 months and 17 days.
Charlotte is survived by her daughter, LaVonne "Bonnie" and her husband, Dana Beeghly of Sergeant Bluff; three grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and three sisters.
