HOLSTEIN, Iowa -- Henrietta Elisa Meier, 91, of Cherokee, Iowa, formerly of Holstein, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001, at Careage Hills in Cherokee.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Holstein, with the Rev. Curtis Benson officiating. Burial will be in Holstein Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Barker Funeral Home in Holstein.

Mrs. Meier was born Feb. 18, 1910, in rural Holstein, the daughter of Adolph and Elma (Blunck) Schmidt. She attended Holstein School and graduated in 1927.

On Sept. 25, 1929, she married Raymond H. Meier in Davenport, Iowa. He died March 15, 1988. They farmed west of Holstein until 1976, when they retired and moved into their home in Holstein.

She was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church and was active in the Ladies Aid and Circle of the church, serving as chairperson for a year. She was also a founder and a charter member of the Douglas Homemakers. She was active in Farm Bureau and chairperson of the women's group for a year. She enjoyed gardening and growing flowers, especially her roses. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her sons and their wives, Roger and Jean of Galva, Iowa, and Lynn and Mary Jo of Manson, Iowa; daughters, Nancy and her husband, Evan Dieck of Appleton, Wis., and Carol Borchers of Holstein; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; a sister, Myra McNichols of Mesa, Ariz.; and sisters-in-law, Donna Faye Meier of Holstein, and Mary Meier and Edie Meier, both of Denver, Colo.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; five sisters, Lenora Gries, Sidonia Madsen, Luella Wulf, Blondina Kistenmacher and Wilma Schmidt; and seven brothers-in-law.
