KINGSLEY, Iowa -- Edna Hawkins, 99, of Kingsley passed away on Friday, March 5, 2004, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at United Methodist Church in Kingsley, with the Rev. Paul Evans officiating. Burial will be in Kingsley Cemetery. Visitation will begin 2 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Rohde-Earnest Funeral Home in Kingsley. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service Monday at the church.

Edna Viola "Granny" Hawkins was born on March 7, 1904 in Kingsley, Iowa, the daughter of John Spence and Lizzie (Lindsay) Coatsworth. She was raised in the Kingsley area where she attended Union School.

On July 16, 1924, Edna and Ray Hawkins were united in marriage at Le Mars, Iowa. The couple made their home in Kingsley. Edna worked for many years at the Kingsley Medical Center with Dr. Powell and Dr. Hamm.

Edna was a member of Kingsley United Methodist Church. Edna, or "Granny" as many knew her, was famous for her pie baking. She enjoyed tatting and passing out candy to fellow residents at Kingsley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Wilma Hauck and Dorothy (Mrs. Jack) Swanberg, both of Kingsley; a son, Elwin R. "Al" Hawkins of Seattle, Wash.; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ray in 1977; a sister, Fern; and two sons-in-law, William Richardson and James Hauck.
