REMSEN, Iowa -- Leon Francis Harte, 48, of Denver, Colo., formerly of Remsen, died Sunday, June 1, 2003, at the University of Colorado Hospital following a heart attack.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen, with the Rev. Timothy Johnson officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a parish rosary at 3 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen.

Mr. Harte was born March 15, 1955, in Le Mars, Iowa, the son of Eugene and Colleen (Daniels) Harte. He was raised and educated in Remsen, graduating from Remsen-Union High School in 1973. He then attended South Dakota School of Mines in Rapids City, S.D., for one year. He worked for his father at the Remsen Lumber Company in his earlier years and then had his own construction business, Leon Harte Construction Company in Remsen.

On July 24, 1976, he married Debbie Hansen in Remsen, where they made their home. In 1982, the family moved to Denver and in 1984, to Greeley, Colo. He lived in Redstone, Colo., from 2000 through 2001, and in Denver since 2001. In Colorado in the 1980s, he worked as a stockbroker for Stuart James, in the 1990s, he had his own car transporting trucking company. For the past five years, he had been self-employed in finance.

He was an avid auto racing fan and proud of his Irish heritage.

Survivors include a son, Michael Lee at Stanford University in Stanford, Calif.; twin daughters, Mollie Jean Harte of Pearl City, Hawaii, and Carrie Ann Harte of Boulder, Colo.; his former wife, Debbie Ann Harte of Redstone, Colo.; two sisters, Kathy Bauler of Remsen and Mary "Bee" and her husband, Scott Carey, of Loveland, Colo.; a brother and his wife, William "Buck" and Joan of Brandon, S.D.; three nieces and three nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Michael.

Pallbearers will be Michael Lee Harte, Erin Blankenship, Tom Harte, Steve Smid, Harold Jakel and Steve Annis.
