ALTON, Iowa -- Norbert M. "Nubs" Hansen, 76, of Alton died Friday, July 12, 2002, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton, with the Rev. James Tigges officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, with military rites. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Sunday, with a St. Mary's Rosary Society rosary at 3 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m., all at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen, Iowa.
Mr. Hansen was born Jan. 3, 1926, in rural Alton, the son of Michael and Lucy (Staab) Hansen. He was raised in the Alton area and received his education at St. Mary's Academy in Alton, graduating in 1946. He served in the U.S. Army occupational services in Japan from May 1946 to October 1947. He then returned to Alton and farmed with his father.
He married Marcella Nilles on Aug. 21, 1950, in Remsen. They made their home near Alton, where they farmed until moving into Alton in 1988. He had worked for Vogel Paint in Orange City, Iowa, and for the state of Iowa. He was presently employed with Sioux Golf and Country Club in Alton.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, American Legion Floyd Post 200 of Alton, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5347 of Alton.
Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Sandi and Jeff Reed of Lee's Summit, Mo., and Peggy and John Flucke of Overland Park, Kan.; five sons and their wives, Ken and Diane of Smithville, Mo., Duane and Lori of Granville, Iowa, Ric and Janet of Alton, Randy and Denise of Kansas City, Mo., and Russ and Michele of Marcus, Iowa; 16 grandchildren; and two sisters, Florentine Pickett of North Liberty, Iowa, and Rena and her husband, Francis Burns of Las Vegas, Nev.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marcella on May 3, 2002; his parents; a son-in-law, David Westmoreland; two sisters, Gertrude Recker and Valeria O'Connell; and three brothers, Robert, Francis and Michael.
