Lemoine H. Hammond, 75, of Sioux City died Friday, March 22, 2002, at a Sioux City retirement home following a brief illness.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Crescent Park United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kristine Frank officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites by American Legion Monahan Post 64. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with family present 6 to 8 p.m, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Mr. Hammond was born Oct. 20, 1926, in Burbank, S.D., the son of Hiram L. and Gladys (Broyles) Hammond. He attended Burbank schools. He was a World War II Army veteran, and following his discharge he returned to Burbank. He also lived in Elk Point and Jefferson, S.D., before moving to Sioux City in 1955.
He married Betty Johnson on July 4, 1949, in Le Mars, Iowa. He was employed in maintenance at the Sioux City Stockyards, retiring after 30 years there.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 134 of Elk Point.
Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Janna and Danny Whitlock of Jefferson, and Julie and David Lehman of Alliance, Neb.; four brothers and their wives, Robert and Theresa of Sioux City, Jack and Delores and James and Sharon, all of Vale, Ore., and Carl and Jeanette of Bronson, Iowa; four sisters and their husbands, Betty and Ray Hoffman of Westfield, Iowa, Beverly and Marlin Baldwin of Sioux City, Patricia and Bill Buttery of Irving, Texas, and Donna and David Bryan of Windsor, Mo.; four grandchildren, Dawn Krull and her husband, Shon, and Holly Hack and her husband, Charles, all of Sioux Falls, and Kirsten and Steffan Lehman, both of Alliance; and two great-grandchildren, Meghan and Joshua Krull.
He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Bonnie Hammond.
