LE MARS, Iowa -- Marvin H. Hansen, 87, of Le Mars, formerly of South Sioux City, died Monday, July 26, 2004, at Floyd Valley Hospital after suffering a heart attack.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars, with the Rev. William McCarthy officiating. Burial will be in St. Catherine's Cemetery, Oyens, Iowa. Visitation will be 8 a.m until service time Friday, with the family present one hour prior to the service, at the funeral home.

Marvin was born Dec. 31, 1916, in Sioux City, the son of Howard and Minnie (Vandersluis) Hansen. He entered the U.S. Army in April 1942 and served overseas with the 132nd Hospital Unit as a hospital corpsman in New Guinea. He was honorably discharged in November 1946.

He married Evelyn E. Fiedler on April 7, 1954, in Luverne, Minn. The couple farmed for a few years in the Oyens, Iowa area, but most of their married lives, they lived in South Sioux City. They owned and operated the Pink Elephant Tavern and Motel and Marv's Tap. In his later years, he was employed with Newton Manufacturing as an advertising salesman. His wife, Evelyn, passed away July 23, 2004.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10753, American Legion Post 307, South Sioux City Eagles Club, Moose Lodge 752 and was a lifetime member of the YMCA.

He is survived by two sisters-in-law, Delphine and her husband, Dick Willms of Le Mars and Allene Fiedler of Le Mars; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death his parents; his wife, Evelyn; a brother, Ray; and a sister, Dorothy.

Pallbearers will be his nephews, Fritz Dirksen, George Dirksen, Larry Fiedler. Gary Nussbaum, Roger Nussbaum and Mel David.
