LE MARS, Iowa -- Lawrence P. Hansen, 85, of Le Mars died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2004, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars following a brief illness.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars, with the Rev. James Tigges of St. James Catholic Church officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the American Legion Wasmar Post 241. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Thursday, with a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Visitation will resume 8 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home.
Lawrence Peter Hansen was born July 23, 1919, in Lismore, Minn., the son of Emil and Margaret (Gaul) Hansen. As a young boy, he moved with his family to the Granville, Iowa area. During World War II, he served his country with the U.S. Army. He served overseas with Company I, 34th Division, 133rd Infantry in North Africa, Sicily and Italy.
After the war, he returned to the Remsen, Iowa area and had worked for Ray Fiedler and other farmers before working with Garvin Oil Co. in Remsen for several years. He later moved to Le Mars and was employed with Bob's Bike Shop for more than 20 years.
He loved to fish in his spare time. He also enjoyed visiting and eating with his friends at Hugo's.
Survivors include three brothers, Cletus Hansen and his wife, Loretta of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Jerome Hansen and his wife, Margo of Le Mars and Emil Hansen Jr. of Slayton, Minn.; five sisters, Irene Leinen of Sibley, Iowa, Mary Ann Streff of Slayton, Minn., Sister Margaret Hansen, O.S.F. of Rochester Hills, Mich., Rita Pottebaum of Yuba City, Calif., and Mildred Gearke of Maurice, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Ambrose, Gerald, Alfred and Leonard Hansen; and a sister, Dolores Ludwig.
