Funeral services for Clemence William Karl, 68, LeMars native and lifelong resident, will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, LeMars, Rev. Robert Hanthorn will officiate and burial will be in the LeMars Memorial Cemetery under the direction of the Mauer Funeral Home.
Mr. Karl died unexpectedly Monday (May 2, 1983) after an apparent heart attack.
He was born Oct. 21, 1914, in LeMars to Lorenz and Catherine Rung Karl. He was a retired warehouseman with Knapp & Spencer.
His marriage to Betty Alice Collins took place May 9, 1943, at Galveston, Tex. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and Wasmer Post 241 American Legion as a veteran of World War II.
Survivors are his wife, Betty, LeMars; two daughters, Mrs. David (June Ann) Paik, Omaha, and Joyce Marie Karl, LeMars; two sons, James William and Jeffrey Lynn Karl, both of LeMars; two grandchildren, Eric Paik and Angela Paik, and a sister, Antonnette Berberich, San Francisco.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Louise Marie Tangeman, Catherine Margaret St. John and Anna Martha Landy, and a brother, George Joseph Karl.
