MRS. RUSSELL KNAPP
Mrs. Russell (Esther) Knapp, 78, 428 Lombardi Road, LeMars, died Friday (Jan. 14, 1983) at Sioux City Marian Health Center after a short illness. She had been hospitalized since Dec. 22, 1982.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Calvary United Methodist Church, LeMars, with Rev. Edward Phillips officiating. Burial will be in the LeMars Memorial Cemetery under the direction of the Mauer Funeral Home.
Family Visitation will be Monday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Knapp, the former Esther Fern Smith, was born Nov. 19, 1905, at Hiawatha, Kan., the daughter of the late John and Mary McCaulley Smith. She married Russell L. Knapp Aug. 26, 1927, at Orange, Calif.
Mrs. Knapp lived in Kansas until moving to LeMars where she attended Western Union College (now Westmar) from 1924 to 1927. Following her graduation she spent a year in California and returned to LeMars in 1928. The couple farmed in the rural Merrill area moving in 1958 to LeMars where they have since made their home.
She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She was formerly active in the Farm Bureau Women and American Association of University Women.
Survivors are her husband, Russell of LeMars; a son Evan of Cherokee; two daughters, Mrs. Edward (Marilyn) Groetken of Sioux City, and Mrs. Gary (Marcella) Miller of Harlan; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
