Maxine R. Gerrietts, 87, of Akron, died Sunday, July 20, 2008, at the Akron Care Center in Akron.
Maxine Ruth Gerrietts was born Nov. 8, 1920, in Hawarden, the daughter of Elmer and Marilla (Crawford) Earll. She was raised near Ireton and later in Hawarden. She attended country school near Ireton and later high school in Hawarden. She graduated from Hawarden High School in 1937.
She was united in marriage to Delmar Gerrietts on Feb. 24, 1941, in Akron. The couple farmed in Portland Township for more than 38 years. She was a homemaker for her family. In 1979, they moved to Akron. Delmar died Dec. 23, 1984.
Maxine was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron where she was active in the ladies aide and missionary society. She taught Sunday school and Bible school for many years, and helped with Junior Mission Band. She also served a term on church council.
She was active in Plymouth County Farm Bureau and Rural Home Culture Club for many years. She was girls 4-H leader for Preston Pearls for several years. She was also a member of Akron Hospital Auxillary for many years.
Maxine loved to read books. She also enjoyed cooking, sewing, and cake decorating. She loved spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include her two children: the Rev. Darrel Gerrietts and his wife, Jeanette of Waverly, and Janet Burrack and her husband Steve of Akron; six grandchildren: Jennifer Masters and her husband, Timothy, Anne Gerrietts, William Burrack and his wife Kimberly, the Rev. Daniel Gerrietts and his wife Molly, Benjamin Burrack and his wife Courtney and Christa Gerrietts; seven great-grandchildren; a sister: Evah Raney and her husband, Lauren of Fairmont, Minn.; a brother: Lyle Earll and his wife Barbara of Bigelow, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Delmar; a brother, Harold Dean Earll; and a sister, Eleanor Kluver.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. in Akron. The Rev. Dawn Quame will officiate. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens, rural Le Mars. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Thursday with the family present after 6 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., all at Carlsen Funeral Home - Schroeder Chapel in Akron.
