OCCUPATION: He served in Company A, which later became Company K, of the Army National Guard in LeMars from 1947 to 1968. He operated Guntren Trucking from the early 1950s until 1966. In 1966, he began employment with the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department as a deputy. He later became sheriff, a position he held until 1978. They resided in LeMars from 1972 until moving back to Remsen in 1978. He then returned to the trucking business. His wife died Oct. 11, 1996.
SURVIVORS: include six daughters; three sons; a son-in-law; 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
PRECEDED in DEATH by: his parents and a daughter, Donna Britton.
