HUGH B. DOWLING
AKRON, Iowa—Hugh B. Dowling, 80, of Akron died Saturday, Feb. 25, 1995, at his home after a brief illness.
Services will be 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron with the Rev. Allen Bidne officiating. A private burial will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Riverside Cemetery, Akron. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present 7 -8 p.m., at the Schroeder Funeral Home, Akron.
Mr. Dowling was born Feb. 11, 1915, in Trail, Okla., the son of Sile and Leucrecia (James) Dowling. He worked on several farms in South Dakota. In 1941 he worked for the Ford Motor Co. in Akron and then moved to Sioux City where he worked for Mahoney Motor Co. He married LaVerne Anderson Feb. 11, 1942, in rural Akron. In 1942, they moved to a farm at Akron and he was a longtime area farmer.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Ruth and her husband, Dennis Bultman of Chatsworth, Ramona and her husband, Dan Liston of McCook, S.D., and June Dowling of LeMars; three sons and their wives, Harold and Carole Dowling of Elk River, Minn., Richard and Paula Dowling of Elizabeth, Ill., and Phil and Debbie Dowling of Akron; a sister, Viola Ord of Somona, Calif.; two half brothers, James Smith of Vallejo, Calif., and Leon Dowling of Clayton, Ala.; 12 grandchildren; five step grandchildren; a great grandchild and two step great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Pfc. John Robert Dowling.
Pallbearers will be Matt, Tom and Jim Dowling, Jeff Bultman and Tony and Dan Liston.
