GERTRUDE DONLIN

LE MARS, Iowa—Gertrude Donlin, 88, of LeMars died Saturday, March 13, 1999, at Plymouth Manor Care Center of LeMars, following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 11:30 Tuesday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, LeMars, with the Rev. Jerome Cosgrove officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery-Neptune in Lincoln Township. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today at Feuerstein Funeral Home in LeMars, with a 4 p.m. Christian Mother’s rosary and a 7 p.m. wake service and a 7:30 Catholic Daughter’s rosary.

Mrs. Donlin was born March 25, 1910, in rural Merrill, Iowa, to Louis and Christina (Herbst) Hoffman. She attended country school in Stanton Township.

She married Joseph E. Donlin, April 28, 1937, in Merrill. The couple farmed for more than 20 years in the Merrill area. In 1984 they moved into LeMars. Mr. Donlin died July 11, 1987.

She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Christian Mothers Society, and of the Catholic Daughters of America for more than 50 years. She was the last member of the Catholic Foresters of Merrill.

Survivors include three sons, Larry and his wife, Betty, of Monroe, Wis., John of St. Louis, Mo., and Fritz and Mary Lou of Merrill; two daughters, Joan and her husband, Dennis Guinane, of Glenwood, Iowa, and Mary Ann Donlin of LeMars; nine grandchildren, Brian, Melissa, Bob, Crystal and Michael Donlin, Connie Hammel, Cheryl Ward, Donna Manna and Sonya Braize; 10 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Werner Hoffman of Sioux City, Lewis Hoffman of Jeffers, Minn, and Theodore Hoffman of LeMars; and two sisters-in-law, Caroline Donlin and Helen Hoffman, both of LeMars.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Elmer Hoffman.

Pallbearers will be Dave, Mike, Kenny and Bob Hoffman and Bob and Brian Donlin.
