HINTON, Iowa -- H. Douglas Zellmer, 48, of Hinton died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003, near Moville, Iowa of injuries suffered in a farm related accident.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 12th and Douglas St., in Sioux City, with the Revs. Mary Christopher and Bruce Zellmer officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., all at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City.
Mr. Zellmer was born May 9, 1954, in Sioux City, the son of Harold L. and M. Oneda (Brown) Zellmer. He grew up near Kingsley and graduated from Kingsley-Pierson High School in 1972. He attended Western Iowa Tech Community College for two years in the police science program, graduating in 1976. He later graduated with a degree in sociology from Westmar College in Le Mars, Iowa.
He married Carolyn M. Gripp on Aug. 15, 1981, in Sioux City. He had engaged in farming near Kingsley. He had been a soccer coach and referee and enjoyed watching his sons' sporting events. He was a Big Brother for two years.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Zellmer of Hinton; two sons, Tyler and Dillon, both at home; his father and stepmother, Harold and Bea Zellmer of South Sioux City; a brother and his wife, Kevin and Peggy Zellmer of Cambria, Calif.; two sisters and their husbands, Twila and Steve Funk of Moville, Iowa, and Libby and Mike Rath of Wentzville, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Oneda Zellmer; and his grandparents.
Honorary pallbearers will be his co-workers and many friends.
