MERRILL, Iowa -- Lou E. Zediker, 76, of Merrill died unexpectedly Monday, Sept. 20, 2004, at a Le Mars, Iowa, hospital.

The body will be cremated. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Merrill Civic Center, with the Rev. Benjamin Meeks of Merrill United Methodist Church and Bennie Cooper officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City at a later date. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Lou Zediker was born April 11, 1928, in Mapleton, Iowa, the son of Orville and Gertrude (Bramble) Zediker. He grew up in the Mapleton area and spent his high school years in Sioux City. He attended Trinity High School. In his early years, he acted in the Community Theater and played baseball for many years.

He married Frances Kutil on July 2, 1949. He married Betty Brekke in 1966. She died in 1977. He married Marilyn Gill on Jan. 26, 1978, in Jackson, Minn. He owned and operated taverns most of his adult life in Mapleton, the Half Moon Lounge in Sioux City and the Midway Lounge in Merrill. Prior to that, he worked at men's clothing stores.

He was a member of Merrill Lions Club and a charter member of Queen of Peace. He enjoyed golfing with his friend, Warren Hauff, bowling and doing crossword puzzles. He was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and the New York Yankees. He was a Methodist.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn, of Merrill; four daughters, Penny Crosmer and her husband, Bill, of Sioux City, Pamela Miller of Tulsa, Okla., Paula Rosenboom and her husband, Kim, of Le Mars, Iowa and Pandora Dahle of Mission, Kan.; five stepchildren, Gloria Lewis and her husband, Brian, of Antioch, Calif., Tom Gill of Baltimore, Md., Rusty Gill of Sioux City, Debby Green and her husband, Guiles, of Sergeant Bluff and Joe Gill of Sioux City; a sister, Norma Postma and her husband, Samuel, of Chicago, Ill.; two dear aunts, Frances Kenley and Allie Bauslaugh, both of Whiting, Iowa; a cousin, Eddie Bramble, of Sergeant Bluff; 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; his parents and a cousin, John Bramble.
