J. FRED DIRKS

J. Fred Dirks, 85, of Akron, died Monday (July 30, 1979) in a hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D., of brief illness.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron. Rev. David J. Roy will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery under the direction of the Schroeder Funeral Home of Akron.

Military graveside services will be conducted by Hoschler American Legion Post of Akron.

Mr. Dirks was born April 26, 1894, at Le Mars.

He married Emma Renken in 1918 in LeMars. She died in June of 1930.

He married Elsie Bernice Baker Feb. 1, 1931, at Hawarden. She died in January of 1972.

He married Lenora Hansen Dec. 26, 1972, at Akron. He was in the hardware business for 70 years in Hawarden, Akron, Brunsville and LeMars and was an army veteran of World War I.

Survivors are his wife; two sons, John F. Dirks of Akron and Charles L. Dirks of Buffalo Center; two daughters, Mrs. C. Lee (Marian) Schmidt of Harlingen, Tex., and Mrs. Dr. Robert (Pat) Carlson of Denver, Colo.; one stepson, Allan Hansen of Sioux Falls, S.D.; two stepdaughters, Arla Lohr of Grand Junction, Colo., and Ava Tucker of Sioux Falls; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; 10 step grandchildren; three brothers, Ed, Henry and Walter, all of Akron, and three sisters, Mrs. Dick Frerichs of LeMars, Mrs. Minnie Downing of Akron and Mrs. Marie Hunter of Woodward, Okla.
