HENRY DIRKS
Henry Dirks, 90, of Paris, Texas, formerly of Akron, died Thursday (Mary 15, 1986) in a nursing home in Paris after a long illness.
Funeral was Monday in Paris. Additional services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron. Rev. Bernard A. Nelson will officiate. Burial will be in Grant Township Cemetery under direction of the Schroeder Funeral Home of Akron.
Mr. Dirks was born Jan. 7, 1896, in Grant Township, Plymouth County. He married Ethel Bruns May 16, 1917, at Brunsville. They made their home in Brunsville for seven years where he was a carpenter. In 1923 they moved to Akron where he and his brothers started Dirks Motor Co. He continued in this business until 1956. In September 1984 the couple moved to Paris.
Mr. Dirks served on the Akron City Council and as mayor of Akron for one term. He served two terms on the Plymouth County Board of Supervisors and was a member of the Board of Directors of the First National Bank of Akron for 50 years. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where he served on the church council and as church treasurer for a number of years. He was a member of Freedom Lodge AF&AM of Akron having served as Worshipful Master in 1952.
Survivors are his wife; two sons, Leonard, of Paris and Ronald of Malden, Mo.; two sisters, Mrs. Marie Hunter of Woodward, Okla., and Mrs. Minnie Downing of Bayonne, N.J.; a brother, Walter of Akron; two step sisters, Mrs. Tena Marienau and Mrs. Marie Albright, both of LeMars; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
