JOHN S. DIRKS

John S. Dirks, 79, Plymouth county native and lifelong LeMars and area resident, died Friday (Jan. 15, 1982) at St. Luke’s hospital, Sioux City, after a brief illness.

Services will be Monday at 1:30 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, Grant township, with Rev. William Striepe officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Luken-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars.

A prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Friends may call at the funeral home after noon Sunday.

He was born Oct. 7, 1902, in Grant township to Eilert and Mary Frerichs Dirks and was a retired carpenter.

Mr. Dirks was a lifelong member of Christ Lutheran Church. His marriage to Marie Popken took place at Christ Lutheran June 30, 1926. She died Dec. 16, 1976.

He was also preceded in death by his parents and two brothers and two sisters.

Survivors are a son, Garry Dirks, Mesa, Arizona, and two sisters, Mrs. Joe (Edna) Hardacre and Mrs. Clarence (Emma) Collmann, both of LeMars.
