LE MARS, Iowa -- Donald Grant Monroe, 44, of Le Mars, died suddenly Friday, July 19, 2002, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Carlsen Funeral Home with the Rev. Matt Wentz of Le Mars Church of Christ officiating. Visitation will be from noon until service time on Tuesday.

Mr. Monroe was born June 18, 1958, in Sioux City, the son of Arlin and Mary (Hummel) Monroe. He was baptized at Morningside Church of Christ. He graduated from Sioux City East High School in 1976. Following graduation from high school, he entered the U.S. Army for four years. Following his discharge, he moved to Shawnee, Okla. He worked for BFI Sanitation as a truck driver for 14 years. In December 2000, he moved to Le Mars and worked for R and K Trucking of Remsen and Van Wyk Trucking of Sheldon,Iowa, as a long-haul driver.

He loved the open road as a truck driver. He was known as a dedicated and punctual driver. He enjoyed fishing, motorcycling and spending time with his family. He was a very generous man who always wanted others to have what they needed.

Survivors include his parents of Rock Rapids, Iowa; a son, Mathew Monroe of Scottsbluff, Neb.; a brother and his wife, Dale and Jean Monroe of Marion, Iowa; two sisters and their husbands, Peggy and Jerry Crosser of Tilden, Neb., and Garnett and Doug Weaver of Omaha; an aunt, Susan Trobaugh of Le Mars; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Pallbearers will be Carl Monroe, Jeff Klemme, Harvey Carpenter, and Gary Saxen.
