WESTFIELD, Iowa -- Margaret Hummel, 88, of Westfield passed away Monday, June 11, 2007, at Hillcrest Health Care Services in Hawarden, Iowa.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Westfield Congregational United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Terry Newell officiating. Burial will be in Westfield Cemetery. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today, with the family present after 6 p.m. and an Order of the Eastern Star Myrtle Chapter service at 7 p.m., at Carlsen Funeral Home - Schroeder Chapel in Akron, Iowa.
Margaret Mable Anderson was born Sept. 7, 1918, in Westfield, the daughter of Arthur and Levada (Harkness) Anderson. She attended school in Westfield.
She was united in marriage to Gordon C. Hummel on Dec. 21, 1936, in Elk Point, S.D. She was a homemaker for her family. The couple lived in various communities in South Dakota and Iowa. In 1979, they retired in Westfield. Gordon passed away in January 1980.
She was a longtime member of Westfield Congregational United Church of Christ, where she was active in the Ladies Aid. She was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed crocheting and sewing. But most of all, she loved the time spent with family. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include three daughters, Jo Ann Eden of Westfield, Janice Sampson of Sturgis, S.D., and Judy and her husband, Marly Gerdes of Hurley, S.D.; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marietta Brown of Westfield and Maie Dzuiawiec of Kansas City, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Merlin Anderson in infancy; and two sisters and their husbands, Mildred and Fred Yates and Melva and Walter Trobaugh.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
