LE MARS, Iowa—Brunhilda “Hilde” Werra Helga De Boer, 88, of LeMars died Monday, May 31, 1999, at Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in LeMars.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Grace Lutheran Church in LeMars, with Rev. Larry Fett officiating. Burial will be in Prairie View Cemetery, Paullina, Iowa. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars.

Mrs. De Boer was born Aug. 7, 1910, in Brilkmannhoff, Germany, the daughter of Hinrich and Anne (Aden) Bootsman.

At the age of 15, she apprenticed to become a goldsmith and eventually became a master goldsmith at Byl Goldsmith Co., in Leer, Ostfriesland, Germany.

She married Jacob Albert De Boer on March 20, 1934, in Leer. She came to the United States in June 1934 and joined him on a farm near Marcus, Iowa. The couple retired in 1965 and moved to LeMars.

Following her retirement, she became a goldsmith and created and repaired gold jewelry. She entered the Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in December 1997.

She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and Sarah Circle. She enjoyed gardening.

Survivors include a son-in-law, Duane Paulsen of Dixon, Ill.; two grandchildren, Russell and Michelle Paulsen; and five nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Viola Paulsen; and a brother and sister.

Memorials may be directed to the Diabetes Association.
