IONA CLAREY
AKRON, Iowa---Iona Clarey, 71, of Akron died Friday, April 6, 2001, at her residence.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Monsignor Richard Zenk officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. today, with the family present 6-8 p.m., and a Scripture prayer service at 7 p.m. at Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron.
Mrs. Clarey was born Sept. 21, 1929, in Akron, S.D., the daughter of Andrew and Leota (Bogner) Trometer. She graduated from Akron High School in 1947. She married William J. Clarey on Nov. 3, 1948. She was employed as a clerk with the G-W Grocery store, Casey’s, and as a cook’s assistant with the Akron-Westfield School.
She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. She enjoyed crafts, gardening and working in the yard.
Survivors include her husband; four sons and their wives, William D. and Cynthia of Greybull, Wyo., Terry and Lynette, and Randy and Lisa, all of Akron, and Andy and Kathy of Rock Valley, Iowa; two daughters, Linda and her husband, Todd Degen of Ireton, Iowa, and Beki Clarey of South Sioux City; three sisters, Alice Harvey of Akron, Jeanette McPherson of Hawarden, Iowa, and Neva Hawks of Akron; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Merlin and Melvin Trometer; and two sisters, Blanche Trometer and Marilyn Titus.
Pallbearers will be Mike Harvey, Mike Hawks, Larry Clarey, Joe Clarey, Orin Blake and Jerry McPherson.
