Loren F. Behrens, 77, of rural Kingsley, died Friday, June 13, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.

Loren Fred Behrens was born Aug, 8, 1930, on the family farm in Henry Township, Plymouth County, the son of Fred "Fritz" and Emma (Kahl) Behrens. He received his education in country school near his home, and later, at Union School and Kingsley High School. After high school, Loren worked as a hired hand for neighboring farmers.

On Feb. 19, 1957, Loren and Ruth Marie Kilker were united in marriage at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. The couple began farming near Pierson. In 1967 they moved to their present farm north of Kingsley. Ruth died on Nov. 3, 2007.

Loren was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Remsen. Throughout the years Loren had collected and restored Massey Harris tractors as well as collecting miniatures. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, farm sales and auctions, antiques and collecting license plates.

Loren was always ready to attend and support his children and grandchildren with their activities and sporting events.

He will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Lorna Kass and her husband Jerome of rural Remsen; a son, Wayne and his wife Judy of rural Kingsley; two granddaughters, Mallory and Kelsey Behrens of rural Kingsley; a sister, Dorothy Tilbury and her husband Adrian of Minneapolis, Minn.; an uncle Harry "Bud" Kahl of Remsen; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife Ruth.

Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. today (Monday) at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Remsen, with the Rev. Craig D. Miller officiating. Burial followed at the Remsen Cemetery. Visitation began at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Remsen, with the family present from 5 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. There was also one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral.
