JAMES FRANZEN
Funeral services for Jim Franzen, 18, who was killed Monday (June 25, 1979) in an industrial accident in LeMars, were held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in LeMars.
Rev. Francis Staber officiated and burial was in Calvary Cemetery under the direction of the Luedtke Funeral home.
Jim was dead at the scene Monday when a roll of paper he was hauling in a Daily Sentinel truck rolled off the truck and crushed him between the roll and a parked car.
James Alan Franzen was born Oct. 31, 1960, in LeMars to Merlin and Dian Hilger Franzen. He had lived here all his life. He had been employed at the Daily Sentinel since 1976. Before that he had been a Daily Sentinel carrier boy.
He graduated this spring from Gehlen high school and was enrolled to attend Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs.
Jim was active in local and community sports programs. He was a member of St. Joseph Church.
