Lloyd S. Feuerhelm, 86, of Merrill, died Thursday, May 8, 2008, at the Good Samaritan Society-Le Mars in Le Mars.
Lloyd Stanley Feuerhelm was born April 29, 1922, in Le Mars, the son of Solomon and Bertha (Draheim) Feuerhelm. He attended country school in Stanton Township, Plymouth County, Iowa. Following his schooling, he began helping his family on the farm.
Lloyd farmed in Stanton Township, living on the family homestead his entire life until moving to Good Samaritan Village in Le Mars, now Good Samaritan Society-Le Mars, in January 2007.
Lloyd attended Merrill United Methodist Church for many years. He was a long-time member of Farm Bureau and the Pheasants Forever. Lloyd and his brother John recently received an honorary award from Pheasants Forever for their donation and planting of many trees on their farm. He enjoyed grafting and experimenting with different types of trees. He will be remembered for his knowledge of farming and his mechanical abilities. There wasn't anything that Lloyd couldn't build or repair. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his brother, John of Le Mars; his nephew,: Alan Feuerhelm and his wife Carol of Le Mars; his niece, Carolyn Smith and her husband Ray of Addison, Ill.; three great-nephews, Scott Feuerhelm and his wife Jill of Le Mars, Brad Feuerhelm and his wife Joyce of Le Mars, and Kevin Smith of Chicago, Ill.; two great-nieces, Kari (Feuerhelm) Daale and her husband Justin of Le Mars, and Michelle (Smith) Padfield and her husband Nick of Bowie, Md.; and several other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Solomon and Bertha Feuerhelm; and two brothers, William Feuerhelm and his wife Grace, and Kasper Feuerhelm.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Merrill United Methodist Church in Merrill. Pastor Ted Stowers will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Sunday with the family present after 5 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., all at Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars. Visitation will resume from 9 a.m. until service time Monday at the church.
