Marion C. Kellen of Le Mars passed away peacefully at Floyd Valley Hospital on Wednesday April 16, 2008, at the age of 83.

The former Marion Christine Hatz was born Jan. 15, 1925, in Remsen, the daughter of Nicholas and Mary (Lauters) Hatz. She grew up at Remsen and graduated from St. Mary's Catholic High School. Marion received her degree in nursing from St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Sioux City and then started her career as a nurse with Sacred Heart Hospital in Le Mars. On April 19, 1948, she married Arthur G. Kellen at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen. The couple made their home in Le Mars and Marion continued to work at Sacred Heart Hospital. Floyd Valley Hospital was founded on Dec. 1, 1966, in Le Mars and Marion was their first Director of Nursing. She served in that capacity until her retirement in January of 1986. Her husband Art died Jan, 12, 1991. For the last year and a half, Marion had resided at Prime Living Apartments in Le Mars.

Marion was a longtime member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars, the Church Guild, Christian Mother's Society and Catholic Daughters of America.

Survivors include her three children and their spouses: Marilyn and John Siske of Cross Junction, Va., Janice and Thomas "Doc" Mahoney of Omaha, Neb., and Keith and Susan Kellen of Milford; four grandchildren, Maggie and Kyle Mahoney and Brian and Kevin Siske; a sister, Ginger Bunkers of Remsen; a brother, Dick Hatz and his wife Ellen of Remsen; and many loving nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Arthur Kellen; and a brother Paul Hatz.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday April 25, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars with the Rev. Kevin Richter officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation at the Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars will be after 2 p.m. Thursday April 24, where there will be a combined rosary by the Christian Mothers and Catholic Daughters at 4 p.m. and a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dick Bunkers, Mary Bunkers, Louanne Nigrone, Carl Nigrone and Kenny Witherwax.

Pallbearers will be Dave, Doug, Mick, Paul, Tim and Tom Bunkers.

Her Honor Guard will be formed by nurses and hospital co-workers.
