WESTFIELD, Iowa -- Tom Martin, 80, of Westfield passed away Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2005, at Akron Care Center.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Akron, Iowa, with the Rev. Richard Zenk officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Akron. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today, with the family present after 6 p.m., with a parish rosary at 5 p.m., and a Scripture wake service at 7 p.m., at Carlsen Funeral Home - Schroeder Chapel in Akron.

Thomas Louis "Tom" Martin was born June 9, 1924, in Westfield, the son of A.A. and Anna (Ryan) Martin. He attended school in Westfield and graduated from Westfield High School. He attended Trinity College in Sioux City.

He was united in marriage to Jeanine Neal on Jan. 9, 1951, at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Westfield. The couple farmed in the Westfield area for many years. Jeanine passed away June 2, 1995. Mr. Martin had been a resident of the Akron Care Center for two and a half years.

He was a member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church and later, St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Akron, where he served on the parish council for both churches. He was a former school board member for the Westfield School District. Tom enjoyed baseball, basketball, hunting, bowling, but most of all, being outdoors on the farm.

Survivors include his six children, Thomas M. Martin and his wife, Sylvia, of Amissville, Va., Helen Buchholz and Tom Baker of North Sioux City, Delores Moss and her husband, Dale, of Brandon, S.D., John Martin and his wife, Corinne, Paul Martin and Michael Martin, all of Westfield; 13 grandchildren, Katie Smith and her husband, Mark, Daniel Martin, Brandi Buchholz, Amber Moss, Dale Moss, Robin Moss, Ashley Martin, Austin Martin, Jessica Prothero, Ronny Prothero, Charlene Martin, Gus Martin and Kristin Martin; a great-grandchild; two sisters, Margaret Donnelly and her husband, Paul, of Miami, Fla. and Mary Malloy of Omaha, Neb.; and several nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John and Jim; and a sister, Catherine O'Connor.

Pallbearers will be Tom Dennison, Leonard Buryanek, Larry Noll, Gilbert Lilly, Jeff Lahr and Ryan Lahr.
